They Will Come Back Home....And They Did

Before I even begin this must do me a favor and view it on your desktop. An iPhone or any phone will not do this "post" justice as it is laid out to the music. I'm never about just posting pictures for the sake of pictures. There is a story here...and that story is you.

"I saw the sun begin to dim and felt the winter wind blow cold..."

It was one year ago when the "Mothership" made the decision to leave our previous location. I have never shown the above pictures until now and I have never discussed the decision. I will not discuss nor give the time of day to that kind of greed. All that I will say is... it was our home for 8 years and we love our new location seeew much more! As the snow was falling on the ramps of our moving trucks, I know neither one of us knew where we would show up next. It was not the way anyone would want to ring in the New Year.

"A man learns who was there for him...when the glitter fades and the walls won't hold..."

I didn't want to look at email or Social Media after we notified everyone of the decision and I definitely didn't want my mom reading them at all. Unless it was productive, I didn't want to rob her of the energy she had left. I do remember some emails from people that said things like, "I won't shop your store if you're on-line only." Whatever makes one feel better I guess???

Um...anyone else hear crickets?

Looking back, it's similar to when someone dies and people send you messages. Some are welcome and others are just...not. They probably have good intentions, but it just ends up making you feel worse.

The good news is that there were many of you who brought your light and offered us words of encouragement! Whether it was in person or through positive uplifting emails, you mean more to us than you know! In fact, there were several customers who even called us to offer this simple message in their own special way....

"Just know that wherever you go we will follow."

They were right.

We re-opened in the charming village district of Charbonneau earlier this year with our Grand Opening on July 15, 2017. Since that day, we have received tremendous support from so many people.

Hollyhill-Quilt-Shoppe-Bldg (1)

New faces and familiar...the beautiful people you see throughout this blog...they don't care if we have chandeliers or not. They don't care about the size of our Shoppe no matter which version they visited. They don't care how many bolts we have, that our classroom is across the parking lot or other such silly things in the bigger picture.

These are the faces of the people who have encouraged us each step of the way and they simply love that our spirit of creating lives on "like an anthem in our hearts.."

They are supportive.

They are fiercely protective to anyone who messes with their quilt shop...but most of all...

They are family.

They have come back home....and that's all we could ever ask for.

I have nothing more to say...I will let the song do the rest.

"When we stop and see you here, we remember who all this was for...." IMG_2387

If you get a chance this Christmas...take those you love and see The Greatest Showman! It is pure magic from the colors, to the music to the lessons! I could see it five more times just for all the detail.

Thank you to all of you who have "come back home" this year.

A Million Dreams Keep Us Creating!

I haven't felt this much passion for a movie since Idina Menzel treated D23 audiences to the first performance of "Let It Go" in August 2013...three months before Frozen's release in November of that same year. If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, between every product share, I've been sharing every new musical discovery for the new movie...The Greatest Showman.  I'll admit it...I'm obsessed! Seeew much seeew that last night when this song "A Million Dreams" dropped in my iTunes, my eyes were swelling with puddles as memories of the past looked on...

Every quilt shop, however big or small....each one begins with a dream.

I can't speak for every quilt shop, however... I know of one quilt shop from personal experience (*wink) where a million dreams do keep them awake. I wish more people understood that.

I haven't seen the movie yet (December 20!) but something tells me it includes a message for the creative spirit in every creator.

"There's a house we can build, every room inside is filled with things from far away...

The special things I compile, each one there to make you smile....on a rainy day..."

Those orchestrations are everything. Do you hear it????

Christmas-2017-1 (1)

The world of quilting has continually evolved and it requires vision to navigate it successfully. Vision brings joys but it also brings new challenges. Trust me, we've definitely had our share of ups and downs in 13 years! But you know what? Even when I feel like I'm losing my mind, if I focus on the world "I close my eyes to see", I always find the joy. It's easy to be negative and critical but creativity and accomplishment require effort. Whether it's the "Mothership" pulling fabrics for new samples and building kits, or me putting together a blog post, those million dreams that keep us awake....they keep us creating.

I must head home for the evening, but this will not be the last of The Greatest Showman on my blog. The entire soundtrack is pure magic!

If there is anything I know for sure today....'tis this...

Every night I lie in bed...the brightest colors fill my head, a million dreams are keeping me awake.

Stay Seeew-cial ~ Brian

Poco Loco por Llama

If you haven't figured it out yet, I love music seeew therefore you will always find a lot of it on our blog. Everytime the "Mothership" (aka Jan...for the newbies) starts to pull fabrics for a new quilt sample, I start hearing a song. It doesn't matter to me who the artist is or the type of music...if it makes me sway to the rhythm and brings me joy, I'm sharing it.

With today's song...I figured I would provide a romantic touch to my blog. Two words...Carlos Rivera.

Um...who 'dat?

Uh...don't know but I'm going to go out on a limb and claim his voice is like your favorite dessert. Quilting can be sexy ladies and gents.

Plus...I  needed to brush up on my Espanol!

Me allmo Brian y este es Lloyd o Lola.

But before we get to Lloyd or Lola....have you seen Pixar's Coco yet? I hear it has an A+ review and while the story surrounds dia de los Muertos (the day of the dead), there is a powerful message about the importance of family.

Since I obsess over everything Disney or Broadway, I couldn't help but notice that the Paracas fabric which we used for this new version of Lloyd or Lola, had a print focused on dia de los Muertos! I kept telling the "Mothership" we need a new version of L&L!

She began to pull the fabrics she would use...and BAM! La-La-Llama!

See how it all comes together??? I even noticed that Carlos Rivera is wearing a yellow jacket in the vid! Does the "Mothership" know how to put colors together or what???

New-Paracas-Fabric (1)

Let me jog your memory a bit...picture it....this blog...last February. We made the entire Lloyd & Lola quilt with both of them on it. The fabulous thing about Elizabeth Hartman patterns is she often includes several sizes! For this new version, we made kits for the single Llama version....thus why I refer to it as Lloyd or Lola.

We figured you could decide who you wanted yours to be.

If you haven't discovered Grunge basics yet....they really are the basic that just keep on giving! Available in a variety of colors, we love the textured background in the print as it gives every project depth.  Grunge also gives every project a current and updated look.

Any guesses as to whose fabric we used for the Llama body? It is perfect! you know how many pictures I had to take to get the quilting to show? I now have 45 pictures of Llamas across my desktop. LOL.

Anyway, the quilting was done by the lovely Trish Hevern. Trish lives in Merrill, Oregon but she will happily meet you here at the Shoppe when she's in town. I love how she made it look like little Llama tails are all over the quilt!

My blog post wouldn't be complete without a trip to the bakery next door! I love these people. They are fun, spunky, creative...and everything they make is delish! Did you see the Apple Pie I bought for Thanksgiving? Did I forget to show that? Don't worry...I will! Anyway, they have a cute selection of gift mugs and towels! I happened to notice that they too....have a Llama! If you want to contact here for information.

Seeew...what's next? Well, I have a TON of things to share and discuss with you, I just have to get some downtime to type it all out! For example, did you notice we have a new website? It has the look of our recent website, but the Search Engine is far better and I like that you don't have to do so much scrolling when viewing on a phone! I'll also share with you our recent Homespun & Holly Christmas Workshop! I've got a recap full of pictures seeew be looking out for that too!

Then of course...we have to talk about the Greatest Showman and why I am completely obsessed. Don't know what that is? will. LOL.

That's it for now kids...stay seeew-cial and always support your local brick and mortars! ~ Brian
