The Wooly Block Adventure Begins October 15!

RenderImage

AS OF FEBRUARY, OUR WOOLY BLOCK ADVENTURE BLOCK, "WINTER GLAMPING" BLOCK KIT IS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE.

Seeew...

I told you a few weeks ago about the all-new Wooly Block Adventure from the creators of the Row by Row Experience. This experience is open to shops that sell wool. Much like the Row by Row Experience, each shop has to design a project. Instead of a row, participating shops have to design a pattern for a 8-1/2" x 8-1/2" block. This block pattern, much like the row during Row by Row Experience, is only available by visiting the participating stores. What this means is: you have to physically visit the store and pick up either a pattern or purchase a kit (if available). Everyone golden on that rule?

The inaugural theme is one of my own personal favorites; "Winter Wonderland." For this year's theme, Jan (a.k.a the "mothership" for the newbies) and Christine designed this adorable block extending our vintage trailer theme from the Row by Row Experience.

For information regarding price you will have to visit the Shoppe during the event. We will not be sharing it here as we are not able to sell on-line until after the event is over.

I just adore this and I never imagined it to be seeew cute with wool!

Wooly-Block-Adventure-Hollyhill2

The Wooly Block Adventure runs from October 15 through December 15, 2016. Just like with the Row by Row Experience visit participating stores throughout the United States and Canada to pick up their exclusive pattern or purchase their kit. The last time I checked the Oregon list of stores...there were only four stores participating! Make sure you let stores that carry wool know....they need to get on board next year! For information on the Wooly Block Adventure click here.

This weekend we are excited to debut a new season of wool in the Shoppe! We tend to really get into working with wool once the Summer begins to wind down. Seeew it's nice to see a new supply of gorgeous, dreamy hand-dyed wool arrive this week! It is also our 2nd annual Wool N' Harvest Workshop with designer Kathy Cardif this weekend. She showed us the project and it is amazing! Since it's a surprise for those who are attending I have to wait to show you, but I promise a full recap when it's over!

Harvest Your Figgy Dreams With Fig Tree's New Chestnut Street!

Chestnut-Street-Bundle

Seeew...

Fig Tree's new Chestnut Street has arrived and it is a stunner! Seeew vivid. Seeew luscious. Seeew...Fig Tree. There were only two collections this year from Fig Tree Quilts, Strawberry Fields Re-visited and Chestnut Street. Our Fig Tree section was starting to get sparse - seeew note to Joanna and Moda - add one more collection for us Fig Lovers!  Ever since I moved her section up to the front entrance, it sells much faster than when I used to build up collections on one of our exterior walls. It's seeew strange how that happens! That's a good thing for us, but kind of a bummer for those who miss the arrival, huh?

Now if you recall a couple of posts ago I promised a return to music here on the blog. Seeew...since we love Fig Tree Quilts and the designer's name just happens to be Joanna, I can only think of one song....

Gotta love the 80's! This video....though!! Just...wow.

The next time she teaches here, I am seeew playing that. LOL.

Freezer-Paper-Method-Class-Sample

Let's get on with it. Pictured above is our class sample for our upcoming Freezer Method Applique Class on Thursday, October 27 from 9am-3pm.

Kits will be required for this class as it is a technique class.

The "Mothership" (a.k.a. Jan for the newbies joining us) will be creating kits based on this sample. It's one of my new favorites! She said she's going to use it at home for her fall decorating!

Now ya see...I would normally go ahead and just leave it there, but I always get calls about kits for people who can't join us for class. Our goal obviously is to host the class and teach you all a new skill. Classes increase your knowledge base!  If there happen to be any kits left, we will notify everyone via our daily email. Students taking the class receive a 20% discount on supplies, which will include this kit.

Chestnut-Street-Fig-Tree-Moda

That's it for right now....I will remind you all that we have two upcoming events for October. The Harvest & Stitches Shop Hop is October 8 through October 22. For those of you who love Sundays, there are two Sundays during this Shop Hop that we are open 12pm-4pm. The Wooly Block Adventure will start October 15 and continue through December 15. I can't wait to show you the block Jan & Christine came up with!

Stay Seeew-cial this weekend and sign up for our daily email inspiration (as we announce everything there first)  and I wouldn't want you to miss out on a special during Manic Mondays. ~ Brian

Changing The Shoppe Around For Christmas!

Let-It-Snow-Quilt-3

Seeew...

Tis the season to be upon us! I said at the beginning of the year that this year would be full of change - that the color palette would be brighter and cheerful- and that's exactly what we've been doing. Change is good. With every new collection that arrives, I have to be the one to find a place to put it...and sometimes, things change. Change...should never be a bad thing as it allows for creativity to evolve and gets you thinking outside of the box.

Just a thought to ponder.

I just finished painting some of our exterior walls and we've got more work ahead so I'll be back with more when I'm finished. But...is it ever finished? No. Not really. As long as there is creativity and imagination, nothing is ever finished.

If you're local, today is our Throwback Thursday Fabric Exchange! Today only! We've all got those fabrics we may have regretted or maybe it just didn't work out. "It's not you, it's me." Perhaps it was a fabric your friend told you that you loved, but deep down inside you simply weren't inspired? There are a slew of reasons why some fabrics get used and others sit on a shelf....for years. For every 1yd cut you bring in (up to a maximum of 5) you will receive $3.00 off of one 1yd.  Seeew....as an example....if you bring in five 1yd cuts you will get $15.00 off 5yds both sale and non-sale! It's the perfect way to de-clutter and re-inspire...but more importantly...IT'S A DEAL!!!!

Create something today and stay seeew-cial! ~ Brian

Looking For Crafters

Seeew...

The "Mothership" is looking for crafters who are interested in selling their crafty things during our first annual Craft Fair (full name TBD) which will be Saturday, November 19. For details contact Jan at hollyhillquiltshoppe@comcast.net. Space will be limited so contact her soon! I have a feeling this is going to be fun, fun, fun!

I should add the disclaimer, that you have to be local and able to run/operate/staff your station here in the Shoppe.

Stay Seeew-cial! Brian

We've Been Ordering Fabric, What Have You Been Doing?

Seeew...

I love our blog. It is the best tool for finding out what fabrics we carry here in the Shoppe...just as long as you're looking at posts I have created in 2016.  Anyway, remember a couple of posts ago when I was showing you some of the new collections that premiered at Quilt Market for Retailers last month? Well, we were able to meet with our favorite Moda rep yesterday to see all of the exciting collections in person! I took a few pictures, but I must warn you....I didn't take pictures of everything. We like to throw in a few surprises or two! The fabrics I show you here today will arrive between now & November.

First of all...we knew that before anything else we just had to order Olive's Flower Market. This is the first time we've ordered a Lella Boutique collection seeew it will be super fun to play with a new style and color palette. The collection arrives in November....and it's well worth the wait!

Olives-Flower-Market-November2

This next collection doesn't need me to tell you how incredibly cute it is. It's perfect. Darling Little Dickens is by Moda's newest designer, Lydia Nelson of Dreamy Quilts. Love everything about this collection and more! It too is scheduled for November/December. If my memory serves correctly January is the peak of what I'm calling the "News of Baby" season! I think a lot of you get told at Christmas that the Stork is on the way! BTW and totally random...but did anyone see the Pelican that scarfed down a pigeon on Social Media? It was...insane. I don't even know why that popped into my mind right now. LOL.

Be looking for this collection near the end of the year!

Darling-Little-Dickens-Green2

Darling-Little-Dickens-Blue2

Our next collection should be no surprise! We have loved the fabrics of Fig Tree ever since the first collection we carried...which was Yuletide Blessing.  Seems like forever ago knowing we've been here for ten years! Her fabrics blend from collection to collection which is why you will always find them around here. Her new Chestnut Street fabric is no exception and it will arrive in September/October.

Chestnut-Street

Sandy Klop alert! This one is near and dear to us at Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe! When Sandy was here last year I asked her, "Hey Sandy..." (she's sweet as can possibly be), "would you ever name a collection Hop, Skip And A Jump?" She was delighted and said that she would totally plan a collection around that. Well, here it is....it's seeeew cute! There are even some paper doll prints that go with the collection that I forgot to get a photo of. Look for Hop, Skip And A Jump in October!

Hop-Skip-And-A-Jump

The last collection I actually got pictures of is of Sherri McConnell's Desert Bloom. Sherri will be teaching her Grandmother's Applique workshop and Kitchen Sink workshop here on August 5 & August 6. Be sure to get registered now. Desert Bloom arrives in November. I see some gray!

Desert-Bloom-November

As always, we will have plenty arriving between now and the fall season. In fact, today we just opened our boxes of Little Ruby, and Jol. Sweetwater's The Cookie Exhange just made it on the floor and we've got some fun and cute projects planned with such an adorable collection. In fact, the "Mothership" and Christine will be teaching me my very first quilt using Sherri's very popular book and fabrics from The Cookie Exchange. I told them I need a break from display work. "The Mothership" guided me with fabric selection and as always she nailed it.

That's it for today folks. Remember, #shoplocal and stay seeew-cial! ~ Brian

Friday Night Flipside

Sundrops-Corey-Yoder

Seeew...

Tis' the season for gourds! But not only is it the season for harvesty-realness, it's also my all-time favorite season for new fabric and....NEW MUSIC! I don't know why, but with every new quilt that is created, a song pops into my head. I SERIOUSLY have no idea why...but that's how it goes down with me. From P!nk and Kenny Chesney, to Gaga and Norah Jones...I have a symphony in my ears this season! Somehow this year, the majority of my posts haven't included music! Well...get ready because I'm about to break the cycle and we will begin with....Norah Jones "Flipside!"

It's as sleek as Corey Yoder's new Sundrops collection....

I can tell you that 2016 has been our "Flipside." What I thought would be maybe a two month project, has turned into a six month project and counting! "Good things are happenin...but happenin' slow." In the midst of all those good things..."moments have passed by and I've cried" - like when you find out your barn doors won't be arriving this week?!!! LOL. If you've followed regularly this year...ya know what I'm talking about.

How can you not drop a jazzy beat when looking at our new Persimmon Quilt below? It's....soulful! Our complete kit is available for purchase here. Our piecer Lisa had fun making this one as it goes together quickly.

Everything about this quilt is heaven. The background is...FABULOUS. Little hints of yellow and coral compliment the blocks. I can't say enough good things about this quilt. You may not believe me but this quilt is gorgeous for Autumn. Autumn isn't always cloudy and dreary. Those bits of sunlight that illuminate each freshly fallen leaf are always nature's entertainment. Can't you envision white gourds and white pumpkins in a cute fall setting? I sure can!

Persimmon-Quilt-Kit (1)

The fabric collection is literally full of perfect blenders for seeew many projects! In fact we've got a table runner in the works and I'm sure the "Mothership" won't let a good fabric ever-go-to-waste. Do you know how many times we jumped too early and put a fabric on sale that we needed later? Mmmhmmm. Let's just say we have learned as I'm sure many other quilt shop owners have.

I'll be developing this post a bit more over the weekend as it's hard to get a good photo at night. In the meantime, just chill to the grooves of Norah and...

Stay seeew-cial...or throw your "peace pie"!  ~ Brian

Seeew...

I've got a winner announcement, but before I get to that I am sharing the project for our upcoming Freezer Paper Applique Method Class with our piecer, Lisa Goodloe. Lisa is responsible for the majority of the fabulous applique projects you see from time to time in the Shoppe. She has been piecing a lot of our samples since 2006 and her work is always exquisite. For the last year she has been teaching different methods of applique here at the Shoppe. The Freezer Paper Applique Method Class, which is her third class, will be on Thursday, October 27 2016 (9am-3pm) and you can register here

In preparation for this class, the "Mothership" (a.k.a. Jan, for the newbies) has been preparing kits for the class. Because this is a technique class, a kit purchase is required. I "get" that there a lot of you following from afar, but these kits will first be available to those of you who sign up for the class. Any kits leftover will be made available for purchase on our website at a later date. Class Discount Night for this class is October 11, 2016 (5:30pm-7:30pm) and students receive a 20% discount.

If you want to make something gorgeous and be finished for fall, sign up now! Early sign-ups ensure the class is a go! Seating is limited seeew don't wait to create! Tis' the season of gourds! <---- Hee hee. I just wanted to use the word "gourds." LOL.

Now, for the winner of that Bramblewood Charm Pack! With help from the Random Number Generator (it really is a thing), the winner of the Bramblewood Charm Pack is....
