It Was A Great Summer!

Bloom-Applique-Class-4 (2)

Seeew...

You know how when you're hosting parties at home, take a ton of pictures and forget to hang the photos on your wall? Well, here in blog-land it's kind of like that. Eventually you need to get those pictures off your desktop (or phone) and make sure you have given those memories their place in history. Seeew today I am sharing with all of you the wonderful time we had with our Summer classes and workshops. We truly appreciate the time many of you are seeew willing to spend with us. We love that we can say, "Hey Cindy, how are you? " (that's who is pictured above) and share in the excitement of your finished projects. When you stay "seeew-cial" with any quilt shop, you not only enrich yourselves, but you enrich the lives of the owners and staff.

Of course...I can't share memories without a little bit of music, now can I?   Seeew, put your hands up as you focus on the joy creativity can bring!

Bloom-Applique-Class-2

I love the joy expressed here by Donna during the Bloom Applique Class! Donna...you're a gem!  The class was taught by our very own Lisa Goodloe (behind Donna) who btw has been piecing our samples since 2006! She won't like that I'm bragging her up (she's super humble) but her piecing is amazing and the applique work she does is just fantastic. We are seeew thankful for her dedication in making us look so good! Thank you Lisa!

Unnamed

Pictured above is Joan! Little fun fact about Joan...she sold her 1963 Ford to purchase her sewing machine in 1970! It was love at first sight and she's been going strong ever since. Don't get between Joan and her machine!

Unnamed-4

Clearly there was a lot of happiness when their blocks were completed! Here's Carol with her block and she too is super happy!

Farm-Girl-Class

I must say, our Farm Girl Vintage Block-of-The-Month "Farm Girls" are some of the most loyal and determined quilters we have ever met! Whether you joined us in-store or on-line, you all have been seeew completely dedicated to this program since August of last year! We only have two more months and then we will have a Grand Party sometime in January. I have ideas. It can't be just any Grand Party...it has to be interactive. :-)

Maholo-Workshop-Sherri-McConnell (1)
Moda designer Sherri McConnell was here in August teaching her Mahalo and Kitchen Sink patterns during two different workshops. Did you know Sherri pieced many of Fig Tree's samples before she became a Moda designer? She is super sweet and has a vast knowledge of quilting. What a delight those colors are in her new collection, Desert Bloom (pictured below). This new collection will arrive in the Shoppe in November!

Sherri-McConnnell-Workshop-2

We love Colleen. She's been coming to the Shoppe since 2005! Always a delight and I feel like she's just part of the Hollyhill family!

Sherri-McConnel-Workshop

Susanna and Jan T. took Sherri's Kitchen Sink Workshop. Susanna comes up about once a year from California to take some of our designer workshops. It's always nice to see her. We are seeing more and more of Jan T. Her hugs and overall sweetness are always welcome. She literally lights up the room when she walks in.

Sherri-McConnell-Workshop-4

Sarah wanted to take the Kitchen Sink Workshop but switch it up with more traditional fabrics! It's going to be beautiful and we want to see it when it's finished!

Sherri-McConnell-Workshop-7

Everybody being seeew-cial sharing projects and having serious discussions.

Sherri-McConnell-Workshop-6
Karen J. took Sherri's Mahalo Workshop with her sister, Carleen. We get to see Karen and her sister twice this year as they are coming back for our 8th Annual Homespun & Holly Christmas Retreat Workshop in December! Karen wanted to make her Mahalo quilt with Sweetwater's Varsity collection. That would make a great quilt for someone going off to college, wouldn't it?

Sherri-McConnnell-Workshop-10

Ahhhhh. There she is! The "Mothership" and Christine taught my niece how to make hexis. She was drawn to the calming colors of Lullaby by Kate & Birdie. When I asked her what she is going to do next....she said she'd have to get back to me. LOL. I'll just have my people get in touch with her people and maybe we'll eat cake or something.

Beginning-Class-Day

Our second Beginning Quilt Class just finished last week. Jan (the "mothership) and Christine do a fantastic job teaching this class. In just two classes you will walk out with a completed quilt top! I wasn't able to capture everybody's finished project, but I did manage to get pictures of Cindy, Carol, Darlene and Evelyn. The project just seeew happens to be from the book, "Fresh Family Traditions" by none other than Sherri McConnell. I love the beginners. They arrive with so much excitement and determination! The joy when they finish is just awesome! I love looking at all the different versions that are created, don't you?

Beginning-Class-Day-5

Beginning-Class-Day-6

Beginning-Class-Day-3

That's it for today ladies and gentlemen. Jan & Christine are working on setting up classes for the fall seeew I'm sure I'll be sharing that with you as well. If you haven't already done seeew, you'll want to check out the Wool N' Harvest Fall Retreat Workshop with designer, Kathy Cardiff of the Cottage at Cardiff Farms. We have six more seats left. Maybe seven. I've covered it in full detail here, but I may be giving some sneak peaks to this year's exclusive project soon. Kathy is designing a larger wool project to premiere at the workshop! It's gorgeous.

That's another topic for another day.

Put your hands up and stay Seeew-cial! "Feels good don't it?" ~ Brian

Corey Yoder's Sundrops Is Here!

Sundrops-Hollyhill-Quilt-Shoppe

Seeew...

Now this will definitely make you happy! Corey Yoder's new Sundrops collection is here in the Shoppe and in our on-line store here. Such a precious collection. Oh the possibilities and fun we will have with this one! Seeew many opportunities with the imagination here.

Before I forget...I did get to see Pete's Dragon and I loved it! It was very different from the 1970's version, which I knew going into it. It was just a good, wholesome family film that tickled the imagination and gave you some goosies. You know what those are, right?

I'm going to leave it right here because I've got some painting to do. Yes, painting. We found a new color for the rest of the walls and still need to do the walls around the front windows. I talked to the guy designing our vintage barn doors, and he assures me they will be installed on our workshop before our Wool N' Harvest Retreat begins on Saturday, October 1 2016. Why-oh-why- do I get the feeling this is going right up until the last minute? If you thought our remodel was finished, it's not. We still have the register counters to build and Kathy (from the former Vintage Fleurs shop) will be coming to lighten up and distress our large Hungarian pine cabinet.

One step at a time, right???

In the meantime we are putting lots of traditional and batik fabrics on sale here. You'll find fabrics from 3 Sisters, Minick & Simpson, Blackbird Designs, Batiks, and Primitive Gatherings all on sale! Lots of great border prints and great colors for fall!

Stay Seeew-cial ~ Brian

P.S. I couldn't just have one picture in this post seeew here's a peak at some new 3 Sisters Wovens that will arrive in the Shoppe early 2017.

Watermelon & A Cozy Christmas Are Big Business Around Here...

Summer-Seeds-Quilt (1)

Seeew...

Yes Summer is almost over, but does anyone want to have a watermelon eating contest? Doesn't this look delicious? It makes me want to put on a show in a little small town! Are you a Rose or Sadie?

I love Big Business. Especially the country Rose (Lily Tomlin)....lol. "I got on my Tuesday panties, but I guess you knew that too." LOL.

Summer-Seeds-Quilt2

I love the reds the "Mothership" selected for those watermelons. She did a great job making sure it shows the texture of the melon. We still have to put the binding on, but as soon as Trish Hevern (one of our newest quilters) brought it back, I just had to play. The entire quilt is just charming and whimsical. You can order this bright and happy Summer Slice Quilt Kit by clicking here.

This quilt would be seeew much fun to take along on a picnic or use while sitting on your front porch during those summer nights. During the holidays you could even get away with folding it up on your favorite ladder and simply show off the middle.

Our complete quilt kit includes ample fabric to create the quilt top and binding. Jan has also included ric-rac, buttons (for the seeds which we haven't put on yet) and the pattern for this 60" x 60" quilt. One of my favorite things is the way Jan, Christine and Joann package our kits! They are always like presents. Seeew much attention to detail and it inspires me daily.

Summer-Watermelon-Kit

As I always say, and have said for the last ten years...get it when I'm advertising it because this kit is limited to just eight (8).

Seeew what else happened this week?

Well, as you can see the "Mothership" hosted the August Breakfast Club this past Saturday. As always everyone has a good time and there is usually a winner or two in the bunch. Each month Jan features a project and provides a kit to all attendees. The fee includes a breakfast snack and kit for the project. Everyone is encouraged to bring their own favorite project to share with the group. Here is this month's featured project:

August-Breakfast-Club-Project

This Wall Bucket is perfect for holding "stuff" on spaces that are hard to use, especially in our sewing rooms! When Jan saw both the pattern print and ruler print from Moda's Sew & Sew collection, she knew it would be perfect for this month's project! You can order the pattern from us by calling 503-607-0600. We can ship pattern only orders (without tracking) for $1.90 - $2.25. If you place an order for a pattern through our on-line store, the general shipping fee is $5.95 with the USPS Flat Rate Envelope (tracking included). My advice is to order more than one pattern (or throw in some fabric) if you want to use the website, otherwise just call us for pattern-only orders.

Unnamed-7

Pictured above are the Breakfast Club projects from May through August. Jan focuses on selecting projects that you will find practical for your personal sewing space or perhaps for a friend. Many of the people who attend bring back their projects to share and talk about how they made more because a family member or friend wanted to make one too! It gets a little contagious! Be watching our daily email to register for our September Breakfast Club soon!

Sew-and-Sew-Moda -webpage

Don't forget, we also have two other brand new quilt kits including the Sew & Sew Quilt Kit and the Lori Holt Cozy Christmas Quilt Kit.

Sew-And-Sew-Quilt-Finished-Qult5

Both of these quilt kits are available in the Shoppe and in our on-line Shoppe now. For Lori Holt's Cozy Christmas Quilt, Jan & Christine will be hosting a weekly Sew-Along on Wednesday evenings 6:30pm-8:30pm starting September 7 through November 30. This program is free to those who purchase the Cozy Christmas Quilt Kit from us. The cost of the kit is $129.99 and includes ample fabric to create the quilt top and binding. You will need to purchase the Sew Simple Shapes Cozy Christmas Templates and Cute Little Christmas Buttons separately. The program is going to be valuable to you because Jan & Christine are sewing our sample and there are lots of tips to go over! Seeew, get your kit purchased and if you are local, be sure to register for the Sew Along by clicking here.

A Green Dragon Gets Me Everytime

Flex_petesdragon2016_header_848f56ed

Seeew...

I'm taking a break from product today because sometimes I don't want to be an info booth here on the blog. The best way to learn what is new in the Shoppe is to sign up for our daily email inspiration or visit our on-line store. Otherwise sometimes I'm feeling like I'm doing double-work. My blog is to have conversations and share things we like, even outside of the quilting realm. Seeew that said... I am very excited for Disney's live-action version of Pete's Dragon! Did you know the director for this re-make was living out of the back of his car nine years ago? While this new modern-take isn't even close to the 1970's version I grew up on (no Helen Reddy and singing every 10 minutes), early reviews are raving about this all-new heart warming story. I already bought this song from the soundtrack! P.S. I'll save the "tear jerker" for later.

I'm going to try and see it this weekend when we get some down time. I'll definitely keep you posted, but if you see it before me let me know in the comments!

Petes-dragon-trailer-2

He's so cute! Is he not? He reminds me of my little Lhasa, Chance. There has been a debate about why they didn't give him scales. Uh...because scales aren't as cute as fur. Duh. Since quality-family films have been few and far between this summer, I have a feeling this too will be very successful. BTW..there's a new princess coming up this Thanksgiving named, Moana. Hula skirts are going to be big this holiday season. Just tellin' ya now.

Photo-credit-cnn2

Doesn't it look exotic?? The word from my Disney friends is the animation is dreamy.

Stay Seeew-cial! Remember when you had your own "maps drawn?" I do!

Sugar Pines, Blue Barn & Mahalo

Blue-Barn-Fabrics (1)

Seeew....

We have the new Sugar Pines Blue Barn Quilt Kit on the website today using those beautiful Blue Barn cottons and Blue Barn batiks! Quilts like this...are quite the masterpiece and never go out of style. Like...ever. You can never go wrong with the traditional colors of blue and cream. 50 years from now, a family member is going to open it up and relish it the same way you did when you finally finished it. Just something to think about boys and girls. Isn't it pretty? You can order your complete kit here.

Blue-Barn-Sugar-Pine-Quilt-Kit

Blue-Barn-Batiks

If you haven't been into the Shoppe to check out the Blue Barn collection, whatcha' waiting for? The collection is very popular and if you love classic blues, the time is now to start building a quilt with them. When we view collections to purchase them, it's often 4 to 6 months before delivery. Seeew, when I'm sharing what's in the Shoppe now....that's when you want to start planning your dream quilt if you don't already see one. Both the Sugar Pine Quilt and our Blue Barn Quilt blend cotton and batiks.

Speaking of the Blue Barn Quilt....

Blue-Barn-Quilt-Kit

One of the reasons we invest seeew much into making our quilt samples, is so that we can pass the savings onto you. For example, the pattern for this quilt states to use both a Blue Barn cotton Fat Quarter Bundle and a Blue Barn batik Fat Quarter Bundle for variety. But let's be honest...who is going to put a cream barn on top of a cream background? That cream/tan barn is going to get lost and not show up. By adding two Fat Quarter Bundles to our kit, that would make the price of our kit $200. Does anyone see a cream/tan barn in this pic? I sure don't.

Blue-Barn-Cotton-Fabrics

Seeew Jan prepared our kits with both the blue cotton and batik Fat Quarters as shown. We also give you plenty of background, binding and the pattern. Our kit price...$124.99.

The extra work of planning she put into creating our kits just saved you $80. You're welcome.

Sherri-McConnell-Workshop (1)

Last weekend we were fortunate to have Moda designer Sherri McConnell here at the Shoppe teaching two separate workshops. I'll try and post a recap later seeew that you can see some of the beautiful variations each of these ladies made of Sherri's Grandmother's Fan pattern (which has since been renamed to Mahalo).

Mahalo-Blue-Barn-Quilt

Since this is a post about those luscious Blue Barn fabrics, I figured I would show longtime customer Sharon Loun's version of the Mahalo pattern which is pictured above. Isn't it gorgeous? It's proof that this pattern is very versatile and looks great in just about anything! I'll try and get a re-cap up to show you the versions I saw being made over the weekend but for now, here is a reminder of what the entire project looks like using Sherri's original sample.

Until next time....stay seeew-cial! ~ Brian
