Seeew...I've been taking a lot of time off from "Boughs of Holly" lately, because it's about that time of year when I need time to think. And I won't lie...I happened upon an epic journey last week that was just...wild! It was a journey which reminded me that sometimes you just need to get out of your comfort zone, your box, and experience something completely off the charts! Do that thing you never thought would be possible. Was it luck? I don't know. Luck is sometimes defined as the moment when preparation meets opportunity. I'll tell you all about it in my next post.
If you haven't been out to the Shoppe lately, we now have one Shoppe space for all and our hours are still 10am-5pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Everything that was in "Thoroughly Modern Holly" is being phased into our main Shoppe throughout the Summer as we shift things around. Thoroughly Modern Holly is now our Saturday Sale Room which is open every Saturday from 10am to 5pm only. It's the largest sale room in the area with fabrics from $4.99-$6.99yd, pre-cuts from 30% off, 30%-50% off books and patterns, and seeeew much more!
The Mothership and I made this decision to simplify your shopping experience by having our products in one location, in addition to simplifying our own lives by allowing us time to smell the grass and the dirt. The idea of no longer having to worry about displays and all of the other needs two spaces bring to the table...is amazing. I'm kind of the Rapunzel around here. Yes, I no longer have to watch the glowing lanterns from my tower window. Thanks.
"Just smell the grass, the dirt, just like I dreamed they'd be. Just feel that Summer Breeze...the way it's calling me....for like the first time ever, I'm completely free...."
Seriously, watching her hair fly out of the window is liberating. Maybe if I run out into the parking lot little birds will swoop down and embrace my new found freedom. Ba ha ha ha. I'll still do displays and we will still bring in new things, we just now have to concentrate on one space as opposed to multiple spaces. This might mean you get to see me more! That's got to be a plus, right? Um...right? Remember, I have the power to give you things...seeew your cooperation is appreciated. OMG...was that a bribe? Ba ha ha ha ha ha.
Seeew....with that lesson baking in your little ole' minds...look at what the "Mothership" did with the Lazy Morning pattern featured in Barb and Alma's "Weekend." Um hello! If you love casual elegance, this is it! Our Lazy Morning kit (UPDATE 8/7/2012: This kit has now sold out.) features various shades of the blue fabrics in the collection to give this quilt a vintage summer-esque feel. It would look gorgeous on your porch or in a guest room! I wouldn't lie to you. For a fee I'll swagger on over and find a chair in your house to do this!
"Oh my goodness Mary Ann, isn't this just exquisite?"
This is what I love about Summer. Lots of blue and...yellow! When I visited our own Nancy G's garden a month-or-so-back, I had to whip up a luscious pitcher of good ole' fashioned lemonade. I literally hand picked my lemons right out of the Albertson's grocery aisle! I love the Summer Breeze II collection by Sentimental Studios. We typically carry these colors only during this time of year, seeew be sure to stock up while we have them in the Shoppe. What do you think? Do you love blue and yellow fabrics? P.S. I think we're just about out of the Summer Breeze II Charm Pack. Just sayin'.
Now this...is a stunner! Made with fabrics from the Summer Breeze II collection this visually striking quilt is called the "Blue Waltz." The pattern was designed by Gerri Robinson of Planted Seed Designs. We have a limited number of quilt kits available and as always, they are available on our website.
To give those of you who order on-line an idea of how the kits are shipped to you, here is a picture of one! Our kits are packaged like this you see below...which is why most will be shipped in a USPS flat rate box. Did you know you can only get up to 5-6yds of cotton in a USPS flat rate envelope, depending on the cuts. If we stuff more than that in one of those envelopes, you and I both risk that your envelope will split at some point when it's on its way to you. We wouldn't want you to receive dirty fabric, now would we? Uh. No.
As you can see we spend a lot of time preparing our kits. Kits include ample fabric to complete your project and are labeled and organized for your convenience. Now let me add, we do abbreviate with standard abbreviations on our labels. Seeew...make sure you are familiar with abbreviations such as W.O.F (width of fabric). When in doubt, ask. We are always more than happy to answer questions and get you started in the right direction. It's also a good idea to always read through the entire pattern before you begin cutting into your fabrics and please don't pre-wash your fabrics from a kit. I know some people know this, but there are those who do not.
We will soon be offering kits of Gerri's Climbing Roses pattern, which is made using a Jelly Roll or 2-1/2" strips. I love the deep blues in this quilt! Gorgeous x100. Thanks. It's also no secret that I love the Jelly Roll. I think more people need to try one out and appreciate the genius of this pre-cut. If you only knew how much time you would be saving on the cutting! And who doesn't want to save time?
Now here's something different! Maywood Studios Wild Rose II collection introduces more blue and yellow to their popular collection. Don't you love that deep rich blue border of our Paris Pinwheels quilt? Are you imagining the possibilities where you could display this in your home?
Oh...here we are. At the end of my post! And look...here are some of those quilts for purchase I talked about earlier. I thought I'd give you a peak at some of the quilting. Quilting on the samples are either custom or a edge-to-edge and are priced accordingly. Seeew...always keep on the lookout for new samples being added! You never know what we may want to part with!
I'll be back to share with you my most amazing experience!
Inspire the difference! ~Brian
