Seeew...this past Saturday we re-opened Pickleweed. My mom, Stephen and I stayed until 4am while our staff member, Nancy, remained until well past midnight! Getting a store ready is kind of like packing for a vacation or moving to a new home. Who really packs days or even weeks ahead of schedule? If you do...then we need to keep you busy with shopping! My mom never ceases to amaze me as just when I think she's totally ready to throw in the towel, a burst of energy arrives at 1am and oh...let's decorate another tree! This is the moment I know we are all in for a long night. In fact, I was out window washing in the bitter cold at 3am. There is a definite stillness in the crisp winter air and our town seems a bit magical in the silence. It made me giggle as I thought about the people in those few lone vehicles passing by. They must be thinking, "Who the &@#$ washes widows at 3am?" Seeew...if you ever are passing through our historic town on a cold winter's night, legend has it that occasionally a farm table, Christmas tree or a set of stackable bins crosses the street.
All total...the "Mothership" has decorated ten (eleven if you consider the one for Homespun & Holly) Christmas trees between the two stores and I believe we may have one more on the way. It's kind of like the Octo-Mom, except we are creating trees. We do still have work to do in the back of Pickleweed, and I of course still have a ton of work to do at Holly (remember the farmhouse?) ...but we'll get there. Perhaps I'll show you the ten different trees a lil' bit later. For now...here's a glimpse into our little gift shop known as Pickleweed.
We have two windows for "Pickle"...the one pictured above and this one....
Oh how I miss these windows for display! Faithful Holly Berries (that would be you) may remember that Pickleweed was once home to Hollyhill.
Just inside the front doors....we've got a lil' bit of green and gold. I love green and gold and I love the lodge section of Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe. Seeew...we combined the two inside the front entrance with this....
Remember how I told you about the lady who I overheard say..."I don't know what anyone would do with a quilt in their home?" Well, here's another idea. We've displayed one of our favorite holiday quilts from a previous year above the fireplace as a backdrop. The white tree is full of gold Old World ornaments and over 500 icicles...which are available inside the store. B.T.W. If anyone wondered what the hold up was for re-opening...it was those 500 icicles. The one in the window has about 400. So um...we can blame the icicles. Mmmk?
Speaking of quilts, we have incorporated quite a few quilts throughout the store to provide warmth. There is something about the madgesty of a quilt...especially during the holidays! The quilt below is from the Thimbleberries Pine & Rose Cottage collection. We do have a few kits available and the quilting courtesy of Melissa Hoffman on our sample is stunning! Of course I love the tree and you will find many of the ornaments and decorative accents available for sale only at Pickleweed!
Who would have thought to use garden signs in a tree combined with Old World Cardinal ornaments? Um...my mom. I went to a local chain near my home, known for home decor, and um....as I looked at their trees I thought, "That's all?" But I get it...elaborate trees take time! Don't you just love red and green? And p.s....the snow is very realistic! We sold out of the snow in a just a few hours on day one. Hmmm...maybe we should re-order?
It's definitely starting to look like a farmhouse in here! Especially with all of the ribbon! That's right...Pickleweed has plenty of quality holiday greenery, ribbon, candles and seeew much more! You'd be surprised what we've got tucked into this small space!
Now before I leave for this evening...I've got to tell you I have a thing for candles. I love them. This year we not only have our slow burning candles such as this....
But we also have these....
The very popular LED candles that use a remote control! You can leave them on all night and don't have to worry about the place burning down! I saw Nate Berkus on one of the shopping networks last week (I guess he has his own brand) and would you believe our price is just as grand as Today's Special Value? Ba ha ha ha ha ha ha.
If you would like to visit Pickleweed Hill, it is located across the street from Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe & Mercantile at 1873 Willamette Falls Dr. in the historic Willamette district of West Linn. Pickleweed Hill is now an "Occassional Store" which means it closes and resets with the change of seasons. Currently our hours are Tues. - Sat. from 10am-5pm from November 25 through December 23.
Alright...it's time for me to retire for the evening. Please remember our stores are closed November 22-24. We will re-open on Friday, November 25!
Here's to plenty of holiday inspiration and a lil' bit of green and gold! ~ Brian
