Each year it seems to be a "Hollyhill" tradition that we have something in blue! Last year we used the blue Hoffman Christmas fabrics to make the "Starry Night" quilt which continues to enchant our visitors on one of our front tables. This year, in addition to re-making the "Starry Night" kit, we took a different approach with the new "Stormy Weather." (P.S. We have the new "Starry Night" kits ready to go but A.) We do not have a sample for this year's version so thus B.) I haven't uploaded it onto our website.)
For those new to the world of quilting or simply new to the world of pre-cuts (b.t.w...."pre-cuts" is the term for Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls, Honey Buns, etc.), 2-1/2" pre-cut strips (or the Jelly Roll) are only offered by Moda when they release a new fabric collection. However, since Jan typically orders an entire collection from a variety of the manufacturers available today (and then some...remember her "Go Big Or Go Home" philosophy?) we make our own 2-1/2" strips from other collections, such as our Hoffman Christmas fabrics!
When we approached Linda (our very dedicated Hollyhill staff member) to come up with a project for these 2-1/2" winter-esque strips she gravitated towards the new book, "Layer Cake, Jelly Roll & Charm Quilts" by Pam & Nicky Lintott. They are the authors of that other popular book, "Jelly Roll Quilts" and the upcoming, "Jelly Roll Inspirations." Each of these books are a great value as they can have up to 17 quilting projects using the Jelly Roll. Yes, you are supposed to unravel those perfectly wrapped bundles! Anyway...Linda found this pattern titled "Stormy Weather," which according to Linda could be a variation of a "Storm At Sea"....check out all of the hidden circles! "Stormy Weather" is available at the "Shoppe" or at hollyhillquiltshoppe.com. Now let's hope that we don't see too much "Stormy Weather" this year. We'll take a day of snow...but please...let's not do the seven day thing again. Agreed? -Brian
