Wow! What a day! Remember how in my last post I was worried because Mrs. Claus seemed to be in over her head with all of her own Christmas finery? Well...it turns out she got ahead of schedule and even suggested to the ole' mighty Kris Kringle that he "come on down to our historic little town" and create some holiday magic! Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe & Mercantile is always on her list so she was more than thrilled that he fit it into the busy "24 Schedule" (um...that's code for Christmas Eve)! In fact, she felt right at home among Debbie Busby's wool and patterns. After selecting a few of our Christmas fabrics for a new holiday dress, she spotted this cute Gingerbread pillow to decorate her North Pole address.
And it wasn't just The Claus's making "holiday" cheer, but the good folk at "Hollyhill" also have granted a few little specials as we near the end of the year! From now until Christmas Eve (we are open on Christmas Eve from 10am until 2pm), we have 25% off specials! Just look for the "Holly" (see image below) signs which are posted throughout the "Shoppe"! Selected fabrics, selected kits and selected pre-cuts (selected Jelly Rolls, Fat Quarter Bundles & Layer Cakes) are 25% off. Of course, this is in-store only...over at www.hollyhillquiltshoppe.com, we have plenty of other specials to take advantage of.
Since I worked for The Walt Disney Co. for nearly a decade, I can never pass up decorating for Christmas! My mom (Jan) always decorated for the holidays at home and as one would suspect, she left no detail unnoticed. Radko, Dept. 56, Hallmark Ornaments, if it was memorable it found its way into our home. So it's only natural that we would try to incorporate our traditions into Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe along with our new store, Pickleweed. The Christmas quilts displayed throughout the "Shoppe" are either samples that we currently have kits for, or they are treasured holiday heirlooms that will make their appearance each and every year.
Below is a simple table top or wall hanging from Alex Anderson's "Baby Quilts With Love". The poinsettia fabric is from Michael Miller fabrics and we used a simple Moda Marble for the inner border and binding. What you can't see in this photo are the crystal embellishments that add a special sparkle (they seemed to have been washed out with the flash) and were easily applied with a crystal applicator. We do still have this kit available and it is available here.
I love Christmas lights and Mrs. Claus made sure everyone knew her jolly man was here by transforming our chandeliers above the register into...holiday delights! Loves it!
And though she has since long retired, Mrs. Claus asked to be hired...and she just loved the "Holiday Line-Up" quilt which uses fabrics from Moda's Figgy Pudding collection by Basic Grey and from I Believe by Nancy Halvorsen for Benartex. If you love it too...you can find the kit available for purchase here.
She even brought along her favorite Christmas dishes...to grant the children's... milk and cookie wishes!
So what happens next at Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe & Mercantile? Well...we will be taking a little break from December 25 through December 28. Both my mom and I have had "zero" time to complete our own holiday tasks, so we are going to take some time to worry about nothing and just...relax. And next year, as our thoughts have already begun...we will be setting up Christmas in August, so we can participate in all of the holiday fun! We do have a huge announcement to tell, but we will have to wait until we hear the New Year bell!
Please keep in mind that we are closed on Sunday & Monday but since Christmas falls on Friday, we will remain closed on Saturday, December 26 this year. We will see everyone again on Tuesday, December 29. We will then be closed on New Years Eve, December 31 to ring in the new year and ready to roll on January 1, 2010. We will then be closing for a few days in January to complete our inventory and do some floor changes. We will announce those days in an upcoming email from the "Shoppe" and right here on "Boughs of Holly"...in the meantime...keep watching! ~ Brian
Can't wait to find out what is next that will be
new and exciting when the New Year rings!
