So here it is, my first post! For those of you who are new to Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe & Mercantile....welcome! The "Shoppe" is family owned and operated by my mom (Jan) and myself (Brian). We are a little unusual in that we are a "Shoppe" that is constantly evolving and we are a mother/son ownership team. My mom's motto has always been, "Go big, or go home" and she's been known to tell me that I am like the Chevy Chase character in "Christmas Vacation." Apparently I have a habit of setting some high expectations that no one could possibly live up to. Oops. Throw in the fact that I worked for Disney theme parks for a decade during my 20's and Jan loves making her shops like a home...and we're doing some good things out here!
Our goal with "Boughs of Holly" is to provide our loyal customers and fans with continual communication about many things that happen throughout the shop including new products and upcoming events both here at Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe and Pickleweed Hill. When I send out the email blasts I am usually limited to what I can share so I love the fact that every blog entry just seems to flow from one to the next!
But enough with all of that...I promise that I will get to updating our "About" section in the near future. I simply wanted to post our first post and share with all of you the following picture! Tomorrow (December 5) marks our first "Homespun & Holly" event and both my mom and I couldn't be more excited! It's 10:15pm and while we still have so much more to finish up, I snapped this picture of our Event room located upstairs above our "Shoppe.", which Jan and Steve worked well into the night to finish it up! It will be here that up to 50 women gather to create five festive holiday projects at five different workstations. We will then...feed them! Featured guests are Debbie Busby of Wooden Spool Designs, Terri Staats of Sweet Treasures, Deb Coates (Cottons shop owner and teacher), Judith Locke (former owner of The Cotton Patch) and my mom...Jan Hill...owner of Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe & Mercantile, Pickleweed Hill all in addition to running an 140-bed care facility. The woman...is amazing.
So enjoy the picture. I will be taking a few more tomorrow! I'll also try and get some time to add in photos from our very first event held this past August with the one and only Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree Quilts!
Happy Holly-Days and see you soon!
Brian
The room looks gorgeous and I can't wait to join you later today. I've been looking forward to it for a long time, my own special gift to myself. :)
